Youth Earth Science Classes Ages 11-13

At an age capable of deep understanding and thoughtfulness, the topics this group will broach are big and bold. They will start learning not just about individual areas of the natural world, but how they interact with each other. A larger focus of these classes is our own interaction with the world around us. The impact it has on us and the effect we have on it is an ever important piece of the puzzle of life.

Rocks, Mining, and Industry

How are rocks used in human society? How do we mine these ores and minerals? What consequences does taking from the Earth have? Is our infrastructure worth the risk?​

Animals, People, and Ecosystems

How many native species of mammals live in North America? How many of those are extinct or threatened? What is wildlife reintroduction? How delicate is our relationship with these ecosystems?

Trees, Rivers, and Us

How do trees prevent erosion? How much can a river change? What human activities cause erosion through loss of trees? What kind of pollution can come from lack of trees?

Space, Astronauts, and Earth
